CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

¯ BEMUS POINT — Devien A. Denson, 21, of Lewis Road, Bemus Point, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree disseminating indecent material to minors at 8 p.m. Aug. 2. According to a police report, deputies investigated suspicious activity that took place between July and August and found Denson had allegedly sent obscene images to a minor on social media. Denson will be in Ellery Town Court later.

¯ PORTLAND — Virbes Mateo Francisco, 22, of Dunkirk was charged with driving while intoxicated, DWI per se, unsafe lane change, unlicensed operator and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle at 2:12 a.m. Aug. 21. According to a police report, deputies responded to a vehicle complaint and pulled the vehicle over on Route 5 in Portland. Francisco will be in Portland Town Court later.

¯ MAYVILLE — Xavier L. Guadarrama, 20, of Jamestown was charged with first-degree attempted assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree menacing at 7:02 p.m. Tuesday after allegedly assaulting a Mayville Public Library employee with a knife. Guadarrama allegedly fled the scene before deputies arrived but was found a short time later. He was also found to be wanted on an outstanding probation warrant and was taken to the Chautauqua County Jail pending arraignment.

¯ SHERMAN — Naresh Kumar Venkatesan, 30, of Erie was charged with failure to stop at a stop sign at 4:32 p.m. Tuesday after an accident on Osborne Street, Sherman. Deputies responded to a report of a car accident involving an Amish buggy and found a vehicle allegedly driven by Venkatesan was driving west on Interestate 86 on the westbound off ramp at Exit 6, didn’t stop and allegedly hit an Amish horse and buggy traveling north on Osborn Street. Two people in the buggy were taken to Westfield Memorial Hospital for treatment. The horse was not injured. Venkatesan will be in court later. In addition to deputies, the Sherman and Mayville volunteer fire departments responded to the scene.

NEW YORK STATE POLICE

¯ William Soto, 40, of Jamestown, was charged with second-degree aggravated harassment after deputies responded to a Mayville residence for a harassment complaint on Aug. 22. Soto allegedly called the victim and threatened her life. Soto was charged, processed at the State Police at Jamestown barracks and taken to the Chautauqua County Jail.

¯ BEMUS POINT — Jason Carnes, 54, of Bemus Point was charged Aug. 17 with second-degree criminal mischief after responding to a complaint on Slide Joslyn Road in Bemus Point. According to a police report, members of the Ellery Highway Department had recently stoned and oiled the road, and Carnes reportedly replaced the stone with dirt and placed two fence posts in the middle of the lane, causing more than $7,000 in damage to the road. Carnes turned himself in to the State Police at Jamestown and was processed. Carnes will be in Ellery Town Court later.

¯ Lawrence Delong, 56, of Jamestown was charged with DWI on Aug. 17 after he was pulled oer on Route 394 in Lakewood. Delong was taken to the State Police barracks in Ellicott and refused to provide a breath sample. He was processed and taken to the Chautauqua County Jail.

CARROLL POLICE

¯ David H. Vanguilder, 46, of Jamestown was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, improper plates, no insurance, unregistered motor vehicle and no insurance after he was pulled over on Old Warren Road for allegedly driving with a suspended driver’s license. Vanguilder also allegedly had outstanding warrants and was turned over to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and was taken for arraignment.
