Portland man charged after

striking buggy

CHAUTAUQUA — A Portland man, who was allegedly driving under the influence of drugs, is facing a number of charges after striking an Amish buggy.

At about 7:45 p.m. Friday, Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Thayer Road for the accident. Upon arrival patrols and EMS crews located four victims in the buggy. Two of occupants were injured and were transported by ambulance to a hospital in Erie, Pa., for treatment.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Adam L. West, 41. An investigation into the crash revealed that West was northbound on Thayer Road and struck a southbound Amish horse and buggy. Further investigation reveled that West was allegedly operating his vehicle while under the influence of drugs after failing field sobriety tests.

West was charged with the felony due to a previous conviction of driving while ability impaired by drugs within the last 10 years. West was charged with felony DWAI-drugs and failure to keep right. West was transported to the Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment.

≤ ELLERY — An early altercation on Saturday has led to charges for a Bemus Point man.

Just before 6 a.m. Saturday, Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies responded to the incident at an address in the town. After an investigation Harold B Trowbridge, 69, was arrested and charged with third-degree assault and criminal obstruction of breathing. He was taken to the Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment.

— SILVER CREEK — Around 8:51 p.m. Saturday deputies and New York State Police responded to an address in the village for a disorderly person. Upon further investigation it was discovered that Nathaniel D. Bagwell, 39 of Silver Creek, allegedly damaged the property of another person.

Bagwell was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and transported to the Chautauqua County Jail for arraignment.

≤ POLAND — Patrick Harris, 32, of Jamestown, was charged with resisting arrest and second-degree harassment. Harris was taken into custody at 12:30 a.m. Friday after deputies responded multiple times to Buffalo Street Extension in the town of Poland where he was allegedly yelling and harassing neighbors. Upon his arrest, Harris reportedly resisted. He is scheduled to appear in Poland Town Court later.
