JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT

¯ Michael Bland, 27, of Buffalo, was charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, tampering with physical evidence and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Officers observed Bland around 4:40 p.m. Thursday in the area of Newland and Forest avenues. Bland had an active arrest warrant of out Jamestown City Court. Bland led officers on a brief foot pursuit but was taken into custody. He reportedly attempted to conceal a quantity of cocaine. Bland was transported to Jamestown City Jail and is scheduled to appear in court later.

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

¯ ELLERY — Jonathan J. Bernacki, 47, Akron, was charged with second-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal mischief and petit larceny. Deputies responded at 2:24 p.m. Thursday to a burglary at a Route 430 residence in the town of Ellery. Bernacki was located on scene and taken into custody. He was transported to Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment.

¯ POLAND — A 53-year-old Conewango Valley man was transported by helicopter to UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa., following a crash early Friday. Sheriff’s deputies and Kennedy firefighters were alerted around 4:40 a.m. to a motorcycle accident. In a news release, the Sheriff’s Office said William J. Whalen was westbound on Route 394 in the town of Poland when a deer reportedly ran in front of his motorcycle. Whalen lost control of the motorcycle. The severity of his injuries was not disclosed.

NEW YORK STATE POLICE

¯ FORESTVILLE — Patrick Olmstead, 25, of Forestville, was charged with driving while intoxicated. Troopers responded Thursday to a Forestville residence for a reported hit-and-run accident. An investigation found that while driving south on Creek Road at a high rate of speed, Olmstead left the road that caused items to leave his truck. The incident caused damage to a front yard. Olmstead was located by troopers shortly afterward. He was processed and is scheduled to appear in Hanover Town Court later.

¯ FREWSBURG — Jessica Walczak, 29, of Frewsburg, was charged with second-degree criminal contempt and second-degree harassment. Troopers responded Thursday to Frewsburg for a reported domestic incident. An investigation found that Walczak allegedly attempted to strike another person with a vacuum cleaner, then jumped on top of the victim while he was on the couch and struck him repeatedly. The incident was in violation of a refrain from order. Walczak was processed and later transported to Chautauqua County Jail.

DUNKIRK POLICE

DUNKIRK — A shooting shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday had Dunkirk police and fire crews in the vicinity of the East Fourth and Main Streets.

According to reports, the shooting victim was reportedly found on East Fourth close to Ruggles Street. The victim was apparently shot in foot and the injury was not life threatening.

No other information has been released on the incident as of Friday morning. A call to the police chief’s phone led to voicemail, which was full and could not accept messages.
