Man Charged For Third Time With Weapons Possession
For at least the third time this year, a Jamestown man is facing charges related to the recovery of a loaded firearm.
The Jamestown Police Department on Wednesday announced the arrest of Joel J. Coleman, 21, on a second-degree criminal possession of a weapon charge. JPD in a short statement said it recovered the gun with the FBI on Tuesday afternoon as part of a “follow-up investigation.”
Coleman was being held for arraignment in Jamestown City Court.
The FBI has been assisting Jamestown police with a rash of violent crimes, many involving firearms.
On March 2, Coleman was taken into custody on a weapons possession charge after gunshots were exchanged between vehicles. No injuries were reported in the shooting, which occurred in the area of West Sixth and Jefferson streets.
One of the vehicles believed to be involved was later located on Summit Avenue with a “bullet hole in its hood,” the Jamestown police said. Officers stopped a vehicle on Pershing Avenue at Baker Street and a passenger in the vehicle — later identified as Coleman — fled on foot while three others remained on scene.
Coleman was later tracked to a Summit Avenue residence where he was found hiding in a garage.
The 21-year-old was also charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon following a February traffic stop on Institute Street in which loaded weapons were found.
