Two men have been charged after officers heard gunshots during a disturbance call early Saturday.

The department over the weekend announced the arrests of 21-year-old Stephon L. Thomas and 19-year-old Xavier M. Ramos, both of Jamestown. Officers had responded around 2:50 a.m. to an area near North Main Main when they heard gunshots.

“Officers responded to the area and located three individuals fleeing the area,” JPD said. “One of the individuals was detained, but two others, Stephon L. Thomas and Xavier M. Ramos, continued away from the officers.

“A short distance away, the officers were able to get both individuals to stop and took them into custody.”

In Thomas’ backpack, officers found a .45 caliber revolver. Ramos was also taken into custody, but a gun was not located at the time.

“A search of the area continued with the assistance of the Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force, Jamestown Police Department Detective Bureau and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit (K-9 Bentley). After an extensive search they were able to locate a Taurus 9mm pistol that had a 30 round high capacity magazine with it, loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition.”

The department added, “The investigation revealed that Ramos had a dispute with another individual in the area of 518 N. Main Street. Ramos fired four rounds at the individual from the 9mm pistol that he was in possession of. “Before Ramos was apprehended by police, he discarded the firearm in a wooded/brushy area in hopes that police would not locate it. It is not believed that Thomas discharged his firearm at the time, but is still prohibited from possessing a firearm.

The pair is being held for arraignment in Jamestown City Court; they each face a charge of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Ramos faces additional charges of first-degree reckless endangerment and unlawful possession of a large-capacity feeding device.
