Former Ironworkers Treasurer Sentenced For Stealing Labor Union Funds
A Celoron man and former treasurer of Ironworkers Local 470 was sentenced to serve two years probation after being convicted of theft from a labor union.
Scott Russell Merritt, 41, was also ordered to pay restitution totaling $50,850.21 during sentencing before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra Jr.
Between May 2011 and August 2018, Merritt allegedly embezzled $50,850.21 in union funds to pay various personal expenses, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Western District of New York announced.
The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Labor Management Standards.
