A homeowner sitting on their couch was “inches away from being struck” after a Jeep traveling too fast for road conditions lost control and struck a vehicle and house Wednesday evening in the town of Dunkirk.

The driver is facing numerous charges after East Dunkirk fighters and New York state troopers were called at about 8 p.m. to Urban Road for reports of a car into a home.

According to Capt. Eric Balon of the New York State Police, a northbound Jeep — being operated by 24-year-old Dunkirk resident Brandon Perry — lost control, crossed the southbound lane and collided with a parked vehicle before striking the home. The Dunkirk man was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The homeowner, Balon said, was alone sitting on a couch at the time of the crash. They did not appear to suffer any major injury.

Perry is facing charges of second-degree aggravated unlicensed operator, speed not reasonable and prudent, failure to keep right, moving from lane unsafely and no seat belt.
