Rollover Sends Driver To Erie Hospital

A Cherry Creek man was taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital after the dump truck he was in overturned Tuesday afternoon.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office said Donald L. Blair, 66, of Cherry Creek, was driving on Thorton Road when the truck’s tires left the road due to uneven ground. The dump truck climbed a dirt embankment before rolling and coming to rest on its drivers side.

The crash, which occurred at about 1:45 p.m., blocked the eastbound lane of the road.

Blair was airlifted to UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa., for treatment of facial injuries, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Assisting at the scene Tuesday were Cherry Creek and Ellington volunteer firefighters as well as Chautauqua County EMS, MAZMAT members and the town Highway Department.
