Inmate Charged With Spitting In Face Of Jail Officer

MAYVILLE — An inmate who allegedly spit in the face of a corrections officer is facing charges, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday.

Deputies said the incident occurred around 1:20 p.m. Sunday at the Chautauqua County Jail. Alyssa Mistretta, 25, of Jamestown, reportedly became disorderly and spit in the face of a corrections officer. Mistretta was charged with second-degree harassment and will be arraigned using the centralized arraignment program.

In April, Chautauqua County District Attorney Patrick Swanson announced that any individual who spits or coughs on a member of law enforcement will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The announcement came after incidents reported by police agencies in Chautauqua County in light of the COVID-19 crisis.
