Fredonia Man Jailed After Standoff With Police

FREDONIA — A Fredonia man was taken into custody after reportedly threatening use of a shotgun.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies were summoned Sunday around 7:45 a.m. to Stone Road in Fredonia. It was learned that 57-year-old Gary T. Ortolano had made a threat with the gun.

Members of the county SWAT team responded, as did the Crisis Negotiation Team and county Emergency Services where a incident command center was established.

“After a brief period of negotiating and through the efforts of the county SWAT Team, the male was taken into custody without incident,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

A shotgun was recovered from the residence.

Ortolano, who was prohibited from owning a firearm due to a previous felony conviction, was taken to the Chautauqua County Jail for processing and held for centralized arraignment.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police.
