A Jamestown man and convicted felon was taken into custody after he was found with a rifle.

Charged was 26-year-old Cain R. Colville after officers on patrol early Thursday spotted Colville carrying a rifle case. When asked about the case, the city man allegedly fled between house in the area of East Sixth and Grant streets.

Other officers were called, and Colville was later taken into custody. The rifle case carrying a .22 caliber rifle was found behind one of the properties.

Because Colville has been convicted of a crime, he is not permitted to posses a firearm, Jamestown police said in a press release.

He was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and was held for arraignment.

Jamestown police said the investigation is ongoing and more charges are pending.
