Tractor-Trailer Crash Leads To DWI Charge

FINDLEY LAKE — A tractor-trailer driver is facing drunken driving charges following a crash on Interstate 86 last week.

Troopers were called Friday to the interstate for a report of a semi off the road in Findley Lake. An investigation determined that the semi, being driven by 37-year-old John Saunders of Liberty, Ind., had been put “out of service” in Allegany County.

Saunders reportedly drove westbound on the interstate before exiting the road. Saunders allegedly exhibited signs of being intoxicated and was transported to UPMC Chautauqua in Jamestown for injuries.

Troopers met Saunders at the hospital, where he was taken into custody. He was charged with driving while intoxicated.

During an inspection of Saunders’ truck, troopers found two open bottles of vodka in the cab. Saunders was processed at police barracks and transported to Chautauqua County Jail for arraignment.
