POMFRET — A Fredonia man is facing charges of riding his lawnmower while intoxicated.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies were called to Chestnut Road around 3 p.m. Saturday in the town of Pomfret for a report of an intoxicated man riding a lawn tractor in the area. Deputies found 60-year-old William Cortes Jr. riding the lawnmower in the road, and following an investigation, was found to be intoxicated.

Cortes was taken into custody and arraigned in Pomfret Town Court on charges of driving while intoxicated, unlicensed operator, unregistered motor vehicle, operating without insurance and uninspected motor vehicle.

The Fredonia man was released on his own recognizance and is due back in court at a later date.
