Jamestown Man Sentenced To Prison In March Kidnapping

MAYVILLE — A Jamestown man charged in March for allegedly kidnapping and threatening a man at a city residence will spend the next several years in state prison.

Mark Diers, 39, was sentenced to seven years with five years of post-release supervision, the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday. Diers was sentenced in front of County Court Judge David Foley on Dec. 4 in Mayville following a conviction of second-degree kidnapping.

According to Jamestown police, Diers held a man captive March 12 at a residence on Norwood Avenue. The city man allegedly abused the unidentified victim mentally and verbally, at one point threatening him with a gun, police said.

During a search of the property, police found illegal weapons, drug paraphernalia and unsanitary living conditions. Also found were several animals, including three painted turtles, which are illegal to possess.

Also sentenced to prison recently in county court were:

• Scott A. Meacham, 38, of Jamestown, to serve four years, plus two years of post-release supervision, for two counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance. The sentences will run concurrently;

• Thomas A. Brewster, 31, of Forestville, to three to six years and one to three years for third-degree burglary and driving while intoxicated. The sentences will run concurrently;

• James C. Blue, 27, of Jamestown, to two years, plus two years post-release supervision, for two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. The sentences will run concurrently;

• Malik S. Townsend, 24, of Jamestown, to one and a half to three years for second-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon;

• Aaron A. Johnson, 23, of Falconer, to one and a half to three years for criminal possession of a firearm.
