Indictment Warrant Issued For Local Man Following Drug Investigation

Gary Hannold

ELLERY — An investigation among several law enforcement agencies has led to an indictment warrant being issued against a Bemus Point man who’s already been arrested twice this year for allegedly possessing a large amount of drugs.

Gary L. Hannold, 41, of Ellery-Centralia Road, was arrested Thursday evening at his residence by the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office. During the course of the investigation, Hannold was stopped by a sheriff’s deputy and found to be in possession of more than 680 grams of methamphetamine.

As a result, the Sheriff’s Office says Hannold was indicted by a federal grand jury and an indictment warrant was subsequently issued charging him with one count of unlawfully possessing with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine.

Upon his arrest, Hannold was transported to the Chautauqua County Jail without bail. Hannold will be arraigned in United States District Court at a later date.

The investigation was conducted by the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Attorney’s Office.

Last month, Hannold was traveling on a motorcycle when deputies pulled him over for an alleged traffic violation on Park Street in Sherman. Deputies said the rider, identified as Hannold, allegedly threw a backpack into the weeds. When deputies found the backpack, they reportedly found a large quantity of methamphetamine and marijuana.

In March, Hannold was arrested and charged following a traffic stop by deputies in Mayville. Hannold was found to have two stun guns, 37 grams of methamphetamine, crack cocaine and marijuana. Digital scales, packaging materials and a quantity of cash were also found. Hannold was also arrested in 2015 for allegedly driving while intoxicated.

Authorities continue to ask members of the community to call when they observe suspicious or narcotics related activity in their neighborhoods at either 800-344-8702 or 363-0131.
