Jamestown Man Jailed After Stealing Vehicle From Business

A Jamestown man was jailed Wednesday after reportedly stealing a vehicle from a business in the town of Pomfret.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies were alerted to the stolen vehicle from the Shur Fine convenience store around 6:30 p.m. Deputies located the vehicle on Route 60 in Pomfret with 35-year-old Joseph P. Battaglia behind the wheel.

Battaglia was determined to have stolen the vehicle and was allegedly found in possession of a controlled substance and marijuana, the Sheriff’s Office said late Wednesday.

Battaglia was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, fourth-degree possession of stolen property criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and third-degree unlicensed operation.

The city man was arraigned in Pomfret Town Court and remanded to Chautauqua County Jail.
