Few Updates Released On Man Run Over In Lakewood

LAKEWOOD — Few details have been released after a man was accidentally run over Tuesday night by a small sport utility vehicle in the village of Lakewood.

Firefighters were summoned at 9:15 p.m. for a pedestrian injured on Route 394 in the village, between Loomis Bay and Vukote roads. First responders found the man, who has not been identified by police, lying in the road.

Kurt Hallberg, Lakewood fire chief, said the man was attempting to get into the SUV and was hanging onto the door handle when the driver began pulling away. Hallberg said the driver was reportedly unaware the victim was trying to open the passenger door.

As the vehicle pulled away, the back tire ran over the man.

“He was breathing and talking to us,” Hallberg said. “He was complaining of chest pain. It was a low-speed incident.”

The man was flown by helicopter to UPMC Hamot hospital in Erie, Pa., for undisclosed injuries. An update on his condition could not be provided without identification.

Dr. Michael Faulk, medical director for the third battalion in Chautauqua County, assisted first responders at the scene.

Firefighters from Ashville provided aid Tuesday by helping to land the medical helicopter. Route 394 was temporarily closed to traffic.

The Lakewood-Busti Police Department could not be reached for an update Wednesday regarding the incident or the man’s condition.
