Carroll Crash Leads To Charges

CARROLL — Distracted driving is being blamed for a crash that sent a 3-year-old passenger to the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Falconer-Frewsburg Road in the town of Carroll at 2 p.m. for a personal injury accident. Investigation by deputies found that the driver, 23-year-old Brittany A. Smith, of Jamestown, was using an electronic device at the time of the incident.

The car left the east side of the roadway and overturned onto its roof. Smith’s 3-year-old child was transported to UPMC Chautauqua WCA Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation further unveiled that Smith was driving on a suspended driver’s license. She was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle on an electronic device.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were Alstar Ambulance and the Frewsburg Fire Department.
