Nearly 15 used bicycles slated to be sold or scrapped for a charitable donation were stolen Thursday morning from Hollyloft Ski and Bike.
Seri Beeson, of Hollyloft, said the bikes and other bike parts were stolen by three men from a locked corral behind the shop, located at 600 Fairmount Ave. in Jamestown.
The men were reportedly caught on security camera footage stealing the bikes at three different times between 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
Beeson said the bikes were going to be sold this season and donated to New Leash on Life Animal Rescue in Celoron, a five-year tradition of Hollyloft’s.
The revenues lost would have helped about a half-dozen animals with their spays and neuters as well as other medical and food expenses, according to Hollyloft.
Beeson said the shop will renew efforts to restock its used bike supply and is asking anyone with old bikes if they’d be willing to donate to help the animals.
“Anyone with a bike they don’t want anymore can drop it off here,” Beeson said. “If the bike is in really good shape, we just turn around and sell it … and that money goes to the animals. If the bike is in really bad shape and not something we can fix, then we will (recycle it) … and that money goes into the donation.”
Anyone with information on this theft is asked to contact the Ellicott Police Department at 665-7083.
