KENNEDY — The New York State Police on Tuesday identified the 46-year-old Dutchess County man whose body was recovered from Conewango Creek following a lengthy search.

The body of Michael T. Leary of Pine Plains, N.Y., was recovered Monday afternoon.

Several agencies had been searching the creek in Kennedy after Leary had entered the water Sunday evening after the canoe he was in overturned.

In a news release, the New York State Police said Leary was not wearing a life jacket at the time he went into the water. The body was transported to the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office.

An investigation remains ongoing.
