Memorial Day Parade Pays Tribute To Fallen Troops
A marching band, color guard, fire trucks and, of course, veterans were present during Jamestown’s Memorial Day parade. The holiday is observed each year on the last Monday in May and is meant to mourn U.S. military personnel who have died while serving. On Monday amid beautiful weather, plenty of American flags could be seen waving by parade-goers. Among those downtown supporting local veterans were two children, Sydney and Remi Palmer of Jamestown. Both proudly waved flags as area veterans, Boy Scouts and Blue Star Mothers walked past. The parade began on West Fourth Street and continued to Buffalo Street. The day’s event, one of several honoring fallen troops held across Chautauqua County, was preceded by the Blue Star Mothers’ annual Gold Star Memorial Remembrance Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park.
