A search was held Thursday morning in the Prendergast Avenue area in Jamestown for a local missing man.
Kevin Hornburg was last seen on Prendergast on Nov. 22, 2021. WNY Missing & Unidentified Persons organized the search and invited the community to help look for Hornburg.
Hornburg’s family told The Post-Journal earlier in the morning that he has never gone missing in the past and were worried for his well-being. They have not heard from the 56-year-old since he was last seen toward the end of November.
WNY Missing & Unidentified Persons recently reached out to the Hornburg family and offered to organize the hour-long search. Hornburg’s daughter said the family appreciated the help.
Merry Williams, founder of WNY Missing & Unidentified Persons, said the group typically does not organize searches during the winter months but made an exception to assist the Hornburg family. The search was aided by temperatures near 60 degrees.

“We weren’t planning any searches for the remainder of winter unless there was a missing vulnerable (person) or child,” Williams said. “But, being that it’s been three weeks and we don’t have even the slightest (idea) and it doesn’t seem like much progress has been made as far as finding answers for this family. We thought it was important while the weather was good to at least come out, give it an hour, start at home base and kind of work our way out as we receive tips. (We will) search different areas that he might pop up and people have seen him and go from there.”
The group searched the 600 to 800 block of Prendergast Avenue as well as Stillers Alley. Williams said anyone with tips on where Hornburg might be located should contact the Jamestown Police Department at 716-483-7536. She also asked that the community remain vigilant regarding any sightings of Hornburg.
“Just keep your eyes peeled,” she said. “He was known to frequent areas such as Robo and Tops over here near Prendergast. Last we knew he could be wearing black sneakers, a black coat almost like a Carhart. Also, he could have camo bibs (on). Those are all possibilities; we aren’t exactly sure what he left in. Roommates claim it was the camo bibs, but his daughter remembers seeing them quite often in a black Carhart-type coat.”
The 56-year-old Hornburg has a tattoo of a cross on his forearm and an unknown tattoo between his pointer finger and thumb.
Williams added that subsequent searches could be announced later.
“If need be, if we don’t find any answers or signs of Kevin today, and we don’t get the family answers, we plan to keep small searches going as the weather allows,” she said.
Williams said his daughter also wanted to share a message with her father that he is missed, his family is worried about him and they just want to know that he is OK.
Asked for an update in the missing person case Wednesday, Capt. Robert Samuelson of the Jamestown Police Department said tips have been received that indicate Hornburg may have traveled to the Olean area. The Olean Police Department has been made aware and is keeping an eye out for the city man, Samuelson said.
Jamestown police were part of the search Thursday.
