Three New Faces On County Legislature

While Republicans will continue to control the Chautauqua County Legislature, there are going to be a few new faces.

Unofficial results show Republicans picking up one additional seat, controlling the legislature 15-4.

In Fredonia, Susan Parker, the endorsed Democratic candidate, defeated Democratic incumbent Christine Starks for District 4. Parker beat out Starks over the summer for the Democratic line; however, Starks had the Working Families line and continued to run for re-election. Unofficial results show Parker winning 460-227.

For District 18, Martin Proctor, the endorsed Republican candidate, defeated incumbent Bill Ward of Mayville. Ward is a registered Republican but lost to Proctor in the summer primary. Ward continued to run on the Democratic and Working Families lines. Proctor of Findley Lake, received 900 votes compared to 589 for Ward.

In Jamestown, Republican challenger David Wilfong defeated Democrat incumbent Robert Whitney Jr. for District 11. Unofficial results show Wilfong with 534 votes compared to 328 for Whitney.

RE-ELECTED

In District 1, Republican incumbent Kevin Muldowney of Dunkirk defeated Democratic challenger Marcus Buchanan. Unofficial results show Muldowney with 637 votes to 545 for Buchanan.

In District 3, Republican incumbent Bob Scudder of Fredonia defeated Democratic challenger Robert Dando. Unofficial results show Scudder with 1,110 votes compared to 497 for Dando.

In District 8, Republican Pierre Chagnon, who is also the county legislature chairman, defeated Democratic challenger Scott Humble. Unofficial results show Chagnon of Bemus Point with 1,136 votes to 305 for Humble.

In District 12, Republican incumbent Elisabeth Rankin of Jamestown defeated Democratic challenger Heather Fagan. Unofficial results show Rankin with 614 votes, compared to 307 for Fagan.

In District 16, Republican incumbent John Davis defeated Democratic challenger Dustin Carvella and Libertarian challenger Gerrit Cain. Davis of Frewsburg received 1,326 votes, Cain came in second with 270 votes and Carvella came in third with 193 votes.

UNOPPOSED

Republican candidates who ran uncontested included: Mark Odell of Stockton for District 7; Terry Niebel of Sheridan for District 5; Thomas Harmon of Silver Creek for District 6; Ken Lawton of Lakewood for District 10; Dan Pavlock of Sinclairville for District 14; Lisa Vanstrom of West Ellicott for District 15; Jay Gould of Ashville for District 17; and John Hemmer of Westfield for District 19. Democrats who ran uncontested included new-comer Billy Torres of Jamestown for District 9; Robert Bankoski of Dunkirk for District 2 and Paul Whitford of Jamestown for District 13. Odell is expected to decline the seat, since he resigned in the summer, but it was too late to get off the ballot. The seat is now represented by Johnathan Penhollow, who is expected to continue to stay as the District 7 representative.
