Georgia Woman Charged In Wrong-Way I-86 Crash

NORTH HARMONY — A Georgia woman has been charged with vehicular manslaughter in a Thursday crash on Interstate 86 that left a Cattaraugus man dead.

Following an investigation, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department and the Chautauqua County District Attorneys Office, an arrest warrant was issued for Heather Capell, 32, of Brunswick, Ga. She was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while ability impaired by a combination of drugs.

Capell was taken into custody by the Erie Police Department in Erie, Pa., on Saturday. She was arraigned as a fugitive from justice in Erie City Court and has been remanded to the custody of the Erie County, Pa., Sheriff’s Office.

She will be in Erie County Court to face extradition to New York state on the Chautauqua County charges.

Bradley S. Wakefield, 51, died in the incident, which occurred shortly after 5 a.m. He was westbound on the interstate when his vehicle was hit head-on by Capell’s eastbound vehicle traveling in the wrong direction.
