First Ever ‘Bash In The Burg’ Set Next Month

FREWSBURG — A family fun event will take place next month in Frewsburg.

The first ever “Bash in the Burg” will start at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at Frewsburg Fireman’s Grounds, which will feature five musical acts from Nashville that will start at 1 p.m.

Lisa Piazza, Frewsburg Fire Company Fundraising Committee member, said fire department officials were approached by Jeff Lewis, a native of Frewsburg, of the country music band South 62 about hosting an event featuring several musical acts from Nashville.

“Jeff (Lewis) has built a lot of relationships in Nashville because they have been doing a lot of concerts. He is a local and plays in a up-and-coming band growing momentum in Nashville,” Piazza said. “He is using his ties to bring other Nashville acts to a music festival in Frewsburg.”

Piazza said since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the fire department has had to cancel its largest fundraiser — Frewsburg Gala Days — two years in a row and they also haven’t been able to host their turkey party or gun show. She said this will be the first fundraiser for the department in more than a year.

“(Fundraisers) are extremely important for a department our size in a smaller community. We are primarily funded through donations,” she said. “Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, we still have to meet state guidelines for training and equipment, and any money raised helps us to do that. This equipment is needed for the people who protect the community.”

Piazza said the fundraising committee has met once a week to plan the festival with town officials and Lewis. She said everyone involved has been hoping the musical event will happen despite the uncertain future because of the COVID-19 pandemic. She added that those who aren’t vaccinated will need to wear a mask during the bash.

“This is a big deal for a small community to see this type of event here,” she said. “To put on something so quickly and affordable is important.”

During the event, there will be food like Italian sausages with peppers and onions, hamburgers, hot dogs and French fries. She said there will also be a beer barn. Also, specialty vendors include Basil & Bones, Merritt Estate Winery, Ace’s Kettle Korn and more. Parking is $5 at designated locations. Vendor donations, parking, beer barn and summer grilling station proceeds will benefit the Frewsburg Fire Company.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online by going to eventbrite.com and searching “Bash in the Burg.” Other musical acts that will be performing include Keith Burns, Steve Dean, Clayton Smalley and Timothy Baker.

“It’s going to be a truly family fun event to enjoy the fresh air,” Piazza said. “Post-COVID, we’re getting everyone back together in the community.”
