A Sinclairville Elementary student died in an accident Monday afternoon.

According to the State Police in Fredonia, around 4:10 p.m., troopers and the Fredonia-based Bureau of Criminal Investigation out of State Police in Fredonia responded to Route 60 in the town of Pomfret for a three-vehicle collision.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2009 Hyundai was traveling north on Route 60 and rear-ended a 2016 Kia which was stopped in the southbound lane waiting to turn left into a parking lot.

The 2016 Kia was pushed into the southbound lane and struck by a 2016 Volvo tractor-trailer traveling southbound. The 35-year-old operator and 7-year-old passenger of the Kia were transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital.

The operator was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The 7-year-old passenger was pronounced deceased at Brooks Memorial Hospital.

The accident temporarily forced the closure of Route 60 for a period of time.
