Ruby Tuesday Shutters Lakewood Location
LAKEWOOD — People in the Lakewood area who were planning to visit Ruby Tuesday located at the Chautauqua Mall for lunch received a surprise on Tuesday.A sign was posted on the door informing customers that the business had closed.
“We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused you and look forward to serving you in one of our other restaurants soon,” the sign stated. The sign said for any questions, visit rubytuesday.com and choose the “contact us” option.
This closing follows two other Ruby Tuesday restaurants shuttering last week in New York, one in Greece and the other in Rochester. The most recent Ruby Tuesday closing also follows the one in the Millcreek Mall in Erie, Pa., being shut down in April.
This is the third Lakewood restaurant to close in the last couple months. In July, officials of Alfie’s Restaurant, located at 986 Fairmount Ave., announced via a sign on the door that the longtime business would be closing Saturday, July 26. Craft Burgers and Brews, located at 60 Chautauqua Ave., Lakewood, announced on Facebook that the business was closing, which it did on July 12.
Ted McCague, Lakewood deputy mayor, said he wasn’t sure why Ruby Tuesday or the other businesses have closed.
“It certainly is sad to see those businesses closing — all of them great businesses,” he said. “It’s especially a concern for the people they employee, that is a concern, and, honestly, I don’t know under what circumstances the businesses have closed.”
McCague said Lakewood is a great place to do business, and noted that the business closings are not necessarily a reflection of the business climate in the village. For example, a new Taco Bell restaurant is being built at the Chautauqua Mall.
“We are doing all we can to support Lakewood businesses,” he said.
