IDA Assists Westfield Company To Stay Local

The Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency has assisted a longterm Westfield company stay local. On Tuesday, the Chautauqua County Industrial Development approved the sale of 71 E. Main St., Westfield, known as the ROR Building, to Welch Foods Inc.

Mark Geise, IDA CEO, said two bids were received, with Welch’s being the highest. He said the bid was for $275,000 for the 16,000-square-foot building.

Geise said Welch’s officials have been looking between North East, Pa., and Westfield for a possible new location. He said the business’ lease at the Welch’s Building, located at 2-4 S. Portage St., Westfield, expires in July of next year.

“This will keep Welch’s in Westfield,” Geise said. “They have been looking at other buildings to purchase or land where they could build. They had a number of options.”

Geise said the ROR Building was at the top of Welch’s list of options, which is why they made the bid. He said there are 11 Welch’s employees working in Westfield. He added the business will most likely use the second floor of the ROR Building and lease the remaining space. He said there are a couple ground level businesses in the building. The county purchased the ROR Building during the Chautauqua County Tax Foreclosure Auction in June.
