Neighbor Dispute In Hanover Escalates With Use Of Nazi Signs
SILVER CREEK — A neighborhood feud is hardly an uncommon occurrence; however, an ongoing dispute between two property owners on Hanover Road has stymied local law enforcement.
Neighbors Jeff Martin and Todd Schilling have apparently been clashing over the Martins’ chickens. In response, Schilling has allegedly placed Nazi flags on his own fence, facing the Martins’ property.
The Martins, who have three children, have reached out to local law enforcement about the matter.
Sheriff Joe Gerace told The Post-Journal, “We first looked into the matter in May. I conferred with the District Attorney’s Office and was instructed that there was not enough for a criminal charge because it is a neighbor dispute.”
Gerace went on to explain that this is definitely a concerning issue and that the Sheriff’s Office is currently involved in the situation.
Out of support for the Martin family, one Silver Creek resident created a Go Fund Me page to raise money for the Martins to install a fence to block the one on which the flags and signs hang.
Calls to Todd Johnson, Hanover town supervisor, and Chautauqua County District Attorney Patrick Swanson for comment were not returned.
