Sources: Bon-Ton Heads Toward Liquidation
According to Reuters, sources familiar with the court-supervised auction facing Bon-Ton Stores Inc. say the chain will go out of business and be forced to liquidate.
It was reported Monday that the only bidders for the company were liquidators.
Bon-Ton had been working with U.S. mall owners Namdar Realty Group and Washington Prime Group Inc (WPG.N) in an attempt to secure a bid that would have kept open a large portion of Bon-Ton locations. Several area locations will be impacted by the liquidation, including stores in Buffalo, Blasdell, West Seneca, Williamsville, Niagara Falls, Lakewood and Erie, Pa.
The failure of the company, with headquarters in York, Pennsylvania and Milwaukee, comes amid Toys ‘R’ Us’ piecemeal liquidation of its namesake stores and Babies ‘R’ Us.
A spokesperson for Bon-Ton did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Bon-Ton filed for bankruptcy in February and Toys ‘R’ Us in September.
