Charges Expected After Dog Found Hanging In Jamestown

Jamestown police announced Wednesday that charges were expected against a suspect reportedly responsible for the hanging of a pit bull in a wooded area near Hallock and Palmer streets Monday.

The name of the suspect and charges were to be released Thursday, Jamestown police Capt. Robert Samuelson said in a press release. Charges were expected to be filed Wednesday afternoon.

“Police would like to thank the public for their assistance in this case with the dozens of tips that were called in,” JPD said in a statement.

“The Jamestown Police (Department) has also received several requests for monetary donations towards a reward or a donation for the animal’s cause,” the statement continued. “We would like to suggest that if anyone wants to donate … that they do it directly to their local SPCA or to the Pick of the Litter animal shelter in Falconer.”

“The Jamestown Police would also like to thank all media outlets for their production and broadcast of this story, which assisted in prompting tips.”

The pit bull was found around 7:45 p.m. hanging from a leash and nylon rope. City police said the hanging appeared intentional, and the dog may have been in the wooded area for up to a week.

Samuelson said no further details regarding the pending charges would be released Wednesday.
