A fire that destroyed an abandoned Fifth Street home Monday morning has been ruled an arson, according to the Jamestown Fire Department.

Andrew Finson, battalion chief with the JFD, said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The fire at 426 E. Fifth St. was reported shortly before 5 a.m. Monday and had city firefighters on scene for the next 3-4 hours.

The home was vacant and reportedly scheduled for demolition. An asbestos abatement was scheduled the day of the fire.
