New Flyer Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Planned Thursday
A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held this week for the new transit bus manufacturer located at the former Fluvanna Quality Markets.
On Tuesday, Carol Rasmussen, County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency business development manager, said a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at New Flyer, with Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul slated to be in attendance.
The New Flyer project was discussed by the IDA because of a change in funding for Shults Real Estate for the redevelopment project. Rasmussen said because of additional renovation work, Shults has had to increase their loan with Five Star Bank from $380,000 to $1,380,000. This has led to a change in the subordination agreement for the IDA, which loaned Shults $500,000 for the redevelopment project. Jamestown City Council will also vote on the same change during their meeting Monday.
Rasmussen said the additional renovation work will be to fix drainage problems in the parking lot, for a new roof and for steel to reinforce the floors in the manufacturing facility. She said work has started at the facility, with 34 people working there. She added it is the first Start-Up NY project in Chautauqua County.
According to the company’s website, New Flyer is a heavy-duty transit bus manufacturer offering the widest range of drive systems and operates North America’s most sophisticated aftermarket parts organization. New Flyer was founded in 1930, as Western Auto and Truck Body Limited, and is now the largest transit bus and motor coach manufacturer and parts distributor in North America with fabrication, manufacturing, distribution and service centers in Canada and the United States.
