BUSTI — A hunting accident in Busti claimed the life of a 50-year-old Jamestown man on Monday.

The Lakewood-Busti Police Department and Busti Fire Department responded to the area of Orr Street Extension at Garfield Road around 12:45 p.m. for a report of a deceased hunter. Police say Thomas R. Carlson went hunting and didn’t return home as family members went searching for him.

The family then located Carlson with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. Further investigation by police showed that Carlson died from an accidental gunshot wound from his own weapon.

Lakewood-Busti Police and the Busti Fire Department were assisted by the Lakewood and Kiantone fire departments, Chautauqua County Forensic Investigation Team, New York State Environmental Conservation Police and the Chautauqua County Coroner’s Office.
