City Man Leads Police On Chase

An attempted stop to investigate the sale of methamphetamine quickly turned into a high-speed chase this Tuesday.

According to Jamestown Police, Metro Drug Task Force investigators were approaching a vehicle on Falconer Street in an attempt to question the driver, Donald W. Dean, 41, of Jamestown. As officers approached, the vehicle fled the scene, nearly striking the approaching officers.

Dean drove east on Falconer Street into the village of Falconer. Jamestown officers were joined in a vehicle pursuit by Town of Ellicott Police, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies and New York State Police. Dean eventually drove into a wooded area behind the Red Roof Inn, where he had been renting a room, before fleeing on foot. After a brief foot chase, Dean was taken into custody.

A search warrant was obtained for the room Dean was staying in. Inside, officers located a quantity of methamphetamine.

Dean was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, three counts of first-degree attempted assault, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and reckless driving. He also faces a series of traffic and criminal charges stemming from his reckless operation. Dean is in city jail awaiting arraignment.
