Sales include land for Ellicott DPW

By Gregory Bacon 5 min read

A town government in the south county has purchased land to store equipment and highway materials.

The Post-Journal and OBSERVER have been analyzing real estate sales in Chautauqua County and recently looked at the transactions from Aug. 14-20. The county does not provide transaction information, but real estate documents are available for review at the clerk's office.

During this time period, the town of Ellicott purchased 1837 E. Main St. Ext. and another parcel on East Main Street Extension, Ellicott for $50,000. The parcels are labeled as vacant property and total around 8 acres.

"We will be using that property for equipment and material storage for the Highway Department. We have been looking to purchase property for highway use for the last 12 years and finally were able to purchase this lot," Ellicott Highway Superintendent Robert Pickett Jr. said in an email. "We have no town-owned property on which to store piles of stone, gravel, etc. and we have outgrown our 1947 highway garage location which was last added onto in 1989. We store numerous pieces of highway equipment at other town’s locations and even at the Chautauqua County DPF property in the winter. We also have numerous pieces of equipment which sit outside year round. We hope to be constructing a 'cold storage' building in the next few months and if the funding ever materialized would ideally construct a new highway garage at this location."

From Aug. 14-20, there were seven sales that were $300,000 or higher. They are as follows:

- 3614 Watson Rd., Stow sold for $870,000.
