Jamestown to begin leaf collection Nov. 2

2 min read

Phase 1 of the city's annual leaf collection program will begin on Monday, Nov. 2.

Residents are asked to rake leaves to the terrace area behind the curb, not into the street, and have them ready for collection as crews approach their neighborhood. Leaf piles must be free of trash, brush, branches, plastic bags, containers, and other debris. Piles containing these materials will not be collected. All basketball hoops must also be removed from the public right-of-way to allow collection crews to safely and efficiently complete their work.

Phase 1 begins Monday, Nov. 2, with collection starting in the Foote Avenue and Ivy Street area and proceeding west and north in a clockwise direction toward Washington Street.

Phase 2 is anticipated to begin Monday, Nov. 9, in the Foote Avenue, Martin Road, and Linwood Avenue area and proceed east and north in a counterclockwise direction toward the east side of Washington Street and the Fluvanna Avenue area.

Collection dates are approximate and may be adjusted based on weather conditions and the volume of leaves collected. Residents are encouraged to prepare their leaves in advance of collection crews arriving in their area.

Following the completion of the initial citywide collection, a second round of leaf collection may take place, time and weather permitting.

Residents may also bring leaves, brush, branches, and garden debris to the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities (BPU) Yard Waste Site, located at 1001 Monroe St. The site will remain open on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Nov. 14.
