LAKEWOOD- A new councilman was unanimously voted in by the Busti Town Board.

The Busti Town Board approved the seating of a replacement representative at a town board meeting Monday, appointing Thad Lund to fill the vacancy left by former Councilman Tyler Nelson, who moved outside the town’s boundaries and creating an open seat on the leadership board

"I'm delighted he's on the board," said Jesse Robbins, town supervisor. "He uses a common-sense approach to things; he's very level-headed, and he will be a real asset to this board and the residents of the town."

Lund echoed some of Robbins ‘ statements.

"I've lived here in Busti my whole life," he said. "I grew up here, and I view it as an honor to be on this board. I look forward to representing the people of this town. ...It's just a real honor to serve our community."

Robbins explained that Lund has a treasure trove of experience advocating for and working with people with disabilities and has strong interpersonal communication skills.

"Lund has a lot of education and skills," he said. "He's worked with people with disabilities and advocated for them. I really think the experience he brings to the table will only enhance our board."

Board members also voted to set a date for a public hearing as the Town Board looks at the possibility of voting on a local law to override the state's 2% tax cap.

"Just so everyone knows, we do this every year as a precautionary measure. ...a just-in-case measure," said Councilman Todd Hanson, regarding a potential tax limit override.

Robbins added, "Let's just hope we don't have to. We never want to do this (override)."

The meeting was set for Nov. 2 at 7:15 p.m. Additionally, a meeting was set for the same date at 7 p.m. for the town clerk to schedule a public hearing for public input on the Busti 2027 preliminary fiscal budget.

– The board approved a resolution to pay the 2026 -27 Chautauqua Lake and Watershed Management Alliance membership in the amount of $2,000.
