EMUS POINT – Bemus Point Village Board members are eyeing improvements to Sunset Park in the village.
The Larson Design Group has developed a new master plan for the park, which the board unanimously accepted during a recent meeting. The approval doesn't commit the village to take any action yet.
"We're just voting to accept Larson's submission for a redesign of the park," said Jeff Molnar, village mayor. "It doesn't mean we’re going to do anything with it yet, or agree on a course of action."
Board members The Board of Trustees for the Village of Bemus Point met Tuesday night at 13 Alburtus Ave. During the meeting, they set and approved several dates and times for upcoming community events and programs. The board approved Halloween hours to be observed on Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The Board of Trustees’ Community Events Committee reported that the dates and times for upcoming events are set, pending board approval. A notable returning event is “Light Up the Point,” scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 28, starting at 5 p.m. The event will include a Christmas-themed parade; the official village tree-lighting ceremony; community caroling; a hot dog stand; a hot chocolate bar; and, potentially, a horse-drawn carriage ride hosted by Crackerjack Farms, as reported by committee members Amy Joe Catlett and Laurie Miller.
The group is also accepting donations of new or gently used coats, hats, gloves, socks and boots, Catlett and Miller reported. Donors can drop off donations in advance at The Bemus Point Inn, Modern Expressions, Bemus Point Market, Bemus Point Methodist Church, and Inner Lakes Federal Credit Union.
"The Light Up the Point is an exceptional program," Molnar said. "It's been well attended in the past, and residents look forward to it."
Miller and Catlett encourage those looking for additional ways to participate to consider the following options: decorate a home or business; join the Christmas parade by creating a float, using a golf cart or walking in the parade; wear a favorite Santa hat, ugly sweater, or jingle bells; and support the village’s winter coat, hat, mitten, and sock drive.
The board unanimously approved the event date and time.
In other business:
-Brittany Mulkins, the village clerk for BP, reported that several vendors at the Village's Farmers Market submitted their survey responses.
"We received 16 responses back with an average rating of 4.5 out of five stars from most of the vendors," she stated. "We also gathered suggestions for improving the market next year, which include: better-defined vendor spaces, maintaining restroom cleanliness, and potentially adjusting or shortening the program hours."
–The Bemus Point Business Association has asked the village to take over the annual Easter egg hunt from the association, according to association representative Kelley Marker. Marker also said the association held its annual meeting. The Bemus Point Business Association (BPBA) is a volunteer organization focused on developing Bemus Point as a premier destination. The goal is to provide equal advocacy, collaboration, and promotion for all members.
"I can't say enough good things about our business association," Molnar said.
