School-aged youth and their families are invited to join Chautauqua County 4-H for Dog Wellness Day, an event focused on canine health, behavior, nutrition and training.

The free program will take place on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the JCC Carnahan Center Multi-Room.

Participants will explore the aspects of keeping dogs healthy, happy, and well-trained through hands-on activities, demonstrations, and presentations from local dog professionals and animal experts.

Featured sessions include:

– Dog Behavior with Lyndee Nagel;

– Veterinary Science with Falconer Vet Clinic;

– Dog Enrichment with Amanda Sublett of the Chautauqua County Humane Society;

– The Science of Dog Training with Rich Myers of Resurgence Dog Sports; and

– Police Dog Demonstration with Ryan Dustin.

Youth will learn about responsible dog ownership, animal wellness, canine enrichment with games and puzzles to play with a dog, training techniques, and the roles dogs can play in communities.

For the safety and comfort of the demonstration dogs and presenters, attendees are asked to leave their own dogs at home. No outside dogs will be permitted at the event.

Dog Wellness Day is designed for youth who love dogs, are considering a future career working with animals, or simply want to learn more about caring for their canine companions.

Nestle Purina is sponsoring the program.
