Brent P. Sheldon is running for the Chautauqua County Legislature seat representing District 12.
He has been endorsed by the Chautauqua County Republican Committee. New York state has moved all county elections to even-numbered years, creating back-to-back election cycles for county legislators.
"I am proud of my record of serving the people of Jamestown, cutting taxes, increasing public safety and helping create an economic development zone in the city of Jamestown," Sheldon said.
Sheldon is a member of the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities board and serves on the Jamestown Riverfront Commission. Before retiring in 2019,Sheldon worked for the Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services for 32 years as a public health sanitarian. He also was the radiation safety officer in Chautauqua County.
"I have lived on the north side of Jamestown and in County Legislature District 12 for almost 40 years and I know the people and the issues well. I will work to reduce county taxes, create job opportunities and increase public safety for our residents," Sheldon said.
Sheldon has served as the City Council liaison to the city Planning Commission and has served on the Jamestown Local Development Corp., the Jamestown Strategic Planning and Partnership Commission, Jamestown Human Rights Commission and the Jamestown Property Rehabilitation and Conservation Board of Appeals.
Sheldon graduated from the State College at Fredonia in 1982 with a bachelor's degree in biology and education and completed graduate studies in both fields there. He reinstated Jamestown's annual free rabies clinic for pets after a long absence. He has been married to his wife, Nancy Carmicheal Sheldon, since 1994. Sheldon was a member of CSEA Unit 6300.
"The cost of living has increased for everyone and I will work to make every day necessities more affordable," Sheldon said. "I have the experience and conservative values needed to make the hard decisions to reduce the size and cost of county government, cut property taxes and protect public safety for the taxpayers of Chautauqua County."
