MAYVILLE - A new kayak launch is expected to be installed on Lakeside Park next year.
During the Mayville Village Board meeting, officials awarded the Kayak Launch Bid to BoardSafe Docks 604 of Fleetwood, Pa. at a cost of $96,851.
There was an additional bid of $71,689 received however Barton & Loguidice, which is managing the Lakeside Park project, said the lower bid didn't meet the necessary specifications.
The work is not expected to take place until next year.
So far as part of the Lakeside Park project, the village has installed some paved trails in the park, improved parking near the Chautauqua Belle, and made other upgrades near the Belle.
The entire Lakeside Park project is expected to cost around $900,000. The village has received some outside funding for the project, including a $675,000 grant from the state.
In an unrelated situation, Don Carlson, who is a Chautauqua Town Board member, attended the meeting and was critical that the village board has not created a separate Tree Committee, like the town has.
Mayor Rick Syper said the village board has discussed the issue and decided they would serve as the Tree Committee.
Carlson said that isn't legal, which Syper insisted it is.
Carlson then began questioning board members one-by-one asking them if this is what they wanted.
When he got to Trustee Daniel Roush, Carlson said "you always do what Rick says."
Roush told Carlson to "stop disrespecting" him and then cursed.
A shouting match ensued until Trustee Bill Ward interrupted and said in a loud voice that this time of the meeting should not be a discussion, but rather a place to make a statement and be finished.
After that the board called for an executive session and immediately ended the regular meeting.
Carlson lost to Syper earlier this year in the Republican caucus for mayor.
