KINZUA – The Kinzua Bridge is ready for its annual turn in the autumn spotlight.
Located a few miles off historic Route 6 near Mount Jewett in the heart of the PA Wilds, the 339-acre Kinzua Bridge State Park, located in McKean County, is the home of the reinvented Kinzua Viaduct. Once the longest and tallest railroad structure at 2,053 feet long and 301 feet high, the viaduct was partially destroyed by a tornado during 2003.
Reinvented as a pedestrian walkway eight years later, visitors can stroll 600 feet out on the remaining support towers, peer miles out into the Kinzua Gorge, and gaze down through the partial glass platform at the end of the walkway.
The Kinzua Bridge State Park Visitor Center and Park Office features views of the autumn foliage, self-guiding exhibits, and information about the surrounding area.
The Kinzua Skywalk will be open today through Oct. 31, giving visitors a limited window to step onto the bridge, take in the changing colors of the Kinzua Valley and look through the glass platform to the forest floor below. Family-friendly exhibits inside the visitor center are attractions to visit as well.
