The Jamestown Police Department's SWAT team is in need of purchasing new bulletproof vests, and a resolution approving that purchase is up for discussion tonight by city council.
According to tonight's agenda, the SWAT team is in need of 15 new specialized tactical bulletproof vests and related protective equipment. The proposed purchase includes vests and pouches from The Resource Center, along with ballistic plates and backers from Federal Eastern International, to provide team members with the appropriate protection for tactical operations.
The vests and pouches being purchased from the Resource Center will cost $11,575. The plates and backers from Federal Eastern International will cost $13,890.15. The total cost of the purchase is $25,465.15, to be fully funded through Federal Asset Forfeiture funds, with no impact to the city of Jamestown's General Fund.
Also on tonight's agenda is the suspension of the hiring freeze to fill three vacant positions for on-call matron in the Jamestown Police Department, a resolution to allow members of the SWAT team to attend the 2026 Excelsior Challenge, a tower rate card request and a special event approval for the Uniting 2 Serve Benefit Concert.
The council's work session begins at 7:30 p.m. in the police training room on the fourth floor of city hall. Council committees meet before the work session. The Housing Committee meets at 6:30 p.m. in the police training room with the Finance Committee at 7 p.m. in the mayor's fourth floor conference room, the Public Safety Committee in the police training room at 7 p.m. and the Public Works Committee in the Development Department conference room at 7 p.m.
