Two items are up for council approval tonight under new business, IT purchases from multiple departments, and the creation of a new division for the Board of Public Utilities.
BPU General Manager, Kris Sellstrom, spoke with the council last week during their work session on the BPU looking to create a Digital Services and Infrastructure Division, in connection to the ongoing fiber project. The division would operate similarly to the other five BPU divisions, and allow for a division for BPU employees to focus solely on the fiber and related items. Up for approval tonight is a local law amending a charter change to allow for the division to be established.
The IT purchases are up for approval to be used with 2026 contingency funds in order to address identified departmental technology needs and reduce the impact on the 2027 budget, according to tonight's agenda. The agenda also notes that various city departments have identified technology equipment needs totaling $40,578. Purchasing the equipment in 2026 will allow the city to address these identified needs using available 2026 contingency funds and reduce the financial impact on the 2027 budget.If approved, the equipment will be purchased and invoiced during the 2026 fiscal year, for a total of $40,578 from 2026 contingency funds. Specifically, these IT purchases are for city departments including comptroller, clerk, corporation counsel, Department of Public Works, Parks, police, fire, the mayor's office, and the assessor's office.
The city council voting session begins at 7:30 p.m. in the city council chambers on the second floor of city hall. A public hearing on the Department of Development's Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report, or CAPER, will be held before the voting session at 6:45 p.m. in the city council chambers.
