FREDONIA – Fredonia is looking to discipline, and possibly suspend, a Fredonia Police Department employee over "certain allegations."
Police Chief Gregory Myers "intends to (pursue) disciplinary charges against an employee of the village police department," according to resolutions on the agenda of the village Board of Trustees' Sept. 28 meeting.
The employee is not named in the resolutions. The resolutions were on the agenda of trustees' workshop on Monday, but there was no discussion of them.
One of the resolutions authorizes the appointment of Brian Doyle as a hearing officer. The state's Civil Service Law authorizes the board to designate a hearing officer to conduct a hearing on the disciplinary charges.
"The board desires to appoint an independent and qualified individual to serve as the hearing officer to conduct the hearing, review the evidence, make findings of fact, and issue a recommendation to the board for its review and determination," the resolution states.
Doyle would get compensation of $225 per hour.
The second resolution begins that "certain allegations regarding a particular employee of the police department have been brought to the board's attention." It states that Myers investigated, reported on it to trustees in executive session, and intends to pursue discipline.
The resolution "authorizes the chief of police to take any and all necessary disciplinary action against said employee, including, but not limited to, preferring, executing and serving disciplinary charges and assisting with the disciplinary hearing."
Myers would also get authorized "to suspend said employee without pay immediately upon delivery of charges against him."
