The Fenton History Center will host its 21st annual walking and horse-drawn carriage tours of Lake View Cemetery.
The Lake View Cemetery allows the Fenton History Center to use the cemetery to tell local history through the tours. The tours are over the first two Saturdays of October, Oct. 3 and Oct. 10.
"The carriage tours always sell out first. They are very popular," said Joni Blackman, Fenton History Center executive director.
The tours tell the stories of a handful of past residents of the beautiful Lake View Cemetery. "We have a great cast of actors telling the stories this year, from a tremendous lightning storm that killed a young man to a mix-up in communication between a husband and wife that turned into a very funny story. It's a great way to learn about local history and enjoy the park-like setting of the cemetery" Blackman said, "This is the Fenton History Center's signature fundraising event that appeals to anyone interested in a good story or their local history."
Sponsors are Rodgers Land Surveying, Weber Knapp, Ahlstrom Schaeffer, Jamestown Area Federal Credit union, FSC and Lind Funeral Home.
The walking tours on Saturday, October 3, are from 1 to 4 p.m., stepping off every 20 minutes. The walking tours on Saturday, Oct. 10, are from 5 to 8:40 p.m., again leaving every 20 minutes.
The walking tour pre-sale cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members, at the gate $17, and children are $2. The tours begin at the main office entrance at the corner of Buffalo Street and Lakeview Avenue. The tours are held rain or shine.
The carriage tours on Oct. 3 are from 5 to 9 p.m., leaving every hour. Tours Oct. 10 are noon to 4 p.m., leaving every hour. The non-refundable cost of the carriage tickets is $25 per seat.
