The Chautauqua County Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault will host its 29th annual Walk Against Domestic Violence and 24th Unity Day Celebration on Friday, Oct. 2.
Participants will line up at the Northwest Arena in downtown Jamestown before walking down Third Street to Jamestown City Hall. The annual event kicks off National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Following the walk, a ceremony and reception will take place at City Hall.
”Every day, survivors navigate complex systems where accountability often feels distant. The Walk Against Domestic Violence exists because survivor voices deserve to be elevated and honored. If walking together is how we show survivors that they aren’t alone and that their pain matters, we will continue to do it year after year,” said Allison Murphy, case manager for Project Crossroads, which facilitates the Chautauqua County Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
The line up begins at 11:45 a.m. with the walk starting at noon Oct. 2. During the Unity Day ceremony, the opening prayer will be led by Pastor Cameron Lienhart of Conduit Ministries. A poem will be read by a representative from the Salvation Army prior to a keynote speaker. A community reception will be held after the ceremony at City Hall. Those attending are asked to wear purple to show solidarity for domestic violence awareness.
