Information technology purchases for multiple city departments have been approved by the City Council in a pre-emptive move to lessen spending in the upcoming 2027 budget proposal.
The total cost for the purchases is $40,578. Purchases to be made are as follows: an Epson DS-900WN document scanner for the City Comptroller's office, a passport system for the City Clerk's office, a computer in the City Clerk's office, a computer in the Corporation Counsel's office, a computer for DPW director Mark Roetzer, a computer for the Parks Department, a new monitor in the City Comptroller's office, a computer in the Corporation Counsel's office, a computer for the Park Department, a new computer monitor for a computer in the Comptroller's Office, a scanner for records for the Police Department, a computer for the Fire Department, a tripod for iPads for the Mayor's Office, a case for iPads in the Mayor's Office, a microphone for iPads in the Mayor's Office, computer laptops for the Fire Department, Verizon APN for the Fire Department, Nikon Camera Z6III for the Fire Department, a Gamber Johnson 7160-0883-00 Cradle for the Fire Department, a Gamber Johnson Power Cable 7300-0468 for the Fire Department, Gamber Johnson Mounting Plate SDI 570 for the Fire Department, Canon IXY650BK Camera for the Assessor's Office, Leico Disto X3 Laser Measure for the Assessor's Office, a computer for City Comptroller Erika Thomas, a Barco ClickShare Screen Share for the Mayor's Office, and a Verkada Video Intercom system for the Mayor's Office.
The resolution for these purchases was presented and approved during the city council voting session. Councilman Bryan Bigelow, R-Ward 2, expressed his approval for purchasing all of this equipment at this time.
"With the funds available the purchase of this equipment at this time would be appropriate, and would meet the technology needs of each department," Bigelow said. "The technology specifically, purchasing this equipment now would be better for the city financially as the rising costs of technology if we were to delay these purchases until next year could be very significant."
These purchases were included under new business during Monday's voting session. Also under new business for the voting session was a local law to establish a new digital infrastructure division for the Board of Public Utilities. Following a small amendment made to the law, this local law was automatically tabled.
"This is going to be automatically tabled for 30 days and a public hearing and vote will happen on October 26 for this resolution," said Regina Brackman, D-Ward 3 and council president.
