Clymer hears update on shared services for dog kennels

CLYMER -- Some progress has been made for a shared services grant allowing for the building and usage of a dog kennel that will be shared between the towns of Ripley, Mina and Clymer.
At the town of Clymer's September meeting, Town Supervisor Brian Willink gave a small update on where that project stands with the grant. Ripley is the lead agency for the kennels, and G&G Consulting are the grant writers. The grant was awarded through the county legislature for $67,050, and each municipality will be required to provide support of up to $5,000.
"We are going to move forward with the dog kennels," Willink said. "They will tentatively be in the town of Ripley, adjacent to their town park which is really next to the I-90 corridor, north of their old school."
Willink added they are still in the process of working on numbers for the building, and then they will get contractors lined up to hook it up to Ripley's water, sewer and electric. Once it gets going, Willink said it will be quick, but right now everyone is still working on getting information lined up.
Also dog related, the town of Clymer is continuing to look for a Dog Control Officer. Current DCO, Kelly Thornton who is the DCO for multiple towns; Clymer, French Creek and Mina, is looking to step back and so the town is continuing to look to hire a new DCO to take her place.
"I've got an advertisement written on behalf of the three towns, Clymer, French Creek and Mina for a combined dog control officer for the three towns," Willink said. "We're going to work together to try and come up with something that would benefit all three towns. Hopefully somebody will be willing to work with all three towns, so we'll see how that goes."
